Review: Oakley Grange farm shop and cafe, Hathern

The giant Ploughman's from Oakley Grange

Being a country girl at heart, there’s nothing I like more on a day off than to get out of the city and explore.

My latest adventure didn’t take me very far – less than 10 miles down the road from my house – but it was a world away from Nottingham’s bustling city centre, and a welcome retreat.

Festival of Food and Drink at Clumber Park

Gourmet sausage rolls from Pig in the Middle

Earlier today we headed over to Clumber Park, near Worksop, to have a look at the Great Taste Festival of Food and Drink.

There were hundreds of exhibitors and food stalls there but our highlight was the delicious street food on offer from The Hungry Gecko, the brainchild of former Masterchef contestant Jackie Kearney, who was behind the counter on her truck, as well as being one of the chefs giving a demo in the main tent at the end of the day.

News bites: 7 September 2014

BBQ chicken wings from Rocket@Saltwater
  • Rocket@Saltwater has launched its new Autumn menu. Dishes include ‘The Boss’ feasting skewer – a combination of Piri Piri chicken, pork and beef – and a chilli con carne pizza. There’s a distinct American smokehouse feel to many of the dishes but a few in there for the veggies too. I particularly like the sound of the coconut king prawns in the ‘smalls’ section and the Rocket Nemesis cake for desert. Dishes are large and designed for sharing, with prices ranging from £10 to £20 for a main course. More info here.
